Crash, Bang, Wallop.

So I'm driving home from work just after midnight earlier this week when I approach a sharp, blind bend just under a railway viaduct.  I stick the car in third gear and slow down to 20 mph when all of a sudden a silver Peugeot travelling in the opposite direction comes hurtling around the corner.
I just had time to think to myself that it's going to hit me when it ploughed into the front driverside of my car.
If you have ever been in a car crash you will know what it is like. Both airbags deployed and the car filled with dust and smoke, the bang of the airbags and the noise of the impact seem to fill the world.  I was thrown into the driver's door and felt my shoulder wrench, my hand hit something (I'm still not sure what) and I knew from the pain that something in there had broken.
I sat stunned for what seemed like a few seconds, I couldn't see anyone moving in the other car.  I tried to open by door but it had bent and I had to force it partially open with my shoulde, sending bolts of pain down my arm.
The door of the other car opened and the interior light came on. I could see an Asian male in the driver's seat with blood running from his nose.  I aksed him if he was ok and he said he had just hit his nose on the steering wheel.
The police and ambulance arrived, he was arrested at the scene for blowing over the limit for alcohol on the breath test and suspicion of dangerous driving.
I was taken to hospital and x-rayed where it was found that I have a broken little finger and various bruises, so I am out of action for awhile.
My car is written off.

Bollocks.

Total bollocks but at least you're alive with a broken finger.

OMGOSH Tony. I am SO glad you are okay, broken finger not withstanding. Oh, dear.

What IS it with people and their selfishness that they drink and drive?

I know you have thought this a 1,000 times since the accident. . . please allow me to say it with you - THANK GOODNESS YOU ARE ALIVE.

Take care, rest easy my friend. You can replace the car, but there is no replacing you.

Love and prayers. xo JG

Years ago I was hit head on by a nutter who hit us head on while he was driving on the wrong side of the road. Myself my wife and the kids survived (just) and we all muddle along OK.

It is indeed bollocks, so I hope you are OK. Since then I have always tried to drive larger cars.

Sorry about the accident, but I'm glad you're OK! It could have been much worse.

Ugg that sucks a ton, glad to hear you made it out though, finger aside.

I've only been in two wrecks and both were slight bumps from people behind me. The 2nd one was worse than the first, I was very uneasy driving for a few weeks.

I'd probably be a wreck if I was in one like yours.

Sorry to hear that this happened buddy but thank goodness that you're okay even though you're in pain, it's better than anything worse. It's also good that the lady wasn't in the car, you were alone right? I'm annoyed the whole thing happened but at least nobody else was in the car too in case they hadn't been so lucky. What an absolute idiot drinking and driving, things could have ended up even more horrendous than they were, really thankful you're alright, sorry the car is a write-off too. Odd another guy I follow on here was in a car accident this week too, I guess bad things all happen at once.

Whoa! Good to know that you're ok. I sometimes can't believe that there are still many idiots out there who drink and drive.
Bollocks indeed:(

I'm so sorry. When the fucking airbags open, you know you're in for some serious shit.

Love,

I suppose we're all going to be piling on with our war stories, and as I'm not exceptional, I'm no exception. I got rear-ended two years ago, mightily, on a rainy morning. And my first thought was: "Am I dead? Is my neck broken?" None of the above. And my airbags did not deploy, which I think may after all be a good thing. Car totaled; driver under-insured. No aches and pains from the accident, but I suppose I'll always get a queasy feeling when I'm stopped in a single land, waiting to take a left turn.

Best to you and your finger.

"Tony Van Helsing's Mystery Theatre" has been included in the A Sunday Drive for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point even more new visitors in your direction.

Oh man! What an experience! I
m glad you didn't get more seriously hurt. My hubby had an experience like that once, with a guy who went into insulin shock while driving. Scary stuff.

So glad it didn't end up worse for you!
By the way...SUSPICION of dangerous driving?

Oh, no! I am so sorry you had to endure this, and, of course, will continue to endure it! I hope your recovery is swift. What a hassle and a pain! Literally!

Could have been a whole lot more than a finger. But that sucks about your car.

Fortunately, you are safe and in one piece. This is a lesson learned for the guy who hit you and to you as well. NEVER EVER DRIVE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS! The accident could’ve been a lot worse. I hope your finger is okay now. How did you handle the legal process, btw? Did you exchange insurance details?

This only proved that driving under the influence of alcohol will more likely get you in an accident. Thankfully, it wasn't that bad. He deserved to be punished under the law so he can learn something from what he did. I hope all is well now.

Car accidents should be reported to the police immediately. In case they come late, you should be responsible in getting the needed information from the other party involved (e.g. plate number and the driver's contact details). It'll also be better if you'll call your lawyer right away so that he can handle the situation as you calm yourself.
