Angry Planet

Blimey, it's getting hot in here. September appears to be the season of seething rage with people getting themselves into a lather for various reasons.

Thousands of Muslims are enraged over a film that the media daren't mention the title of for fear of  upsetting them even more. Although with diplomats being murdered and embassies being stormed and set on fire I don't think that is possible.

A French gossip rag has published pictures of Kate Middleton topless on holiday and the British media are all madder than a a box of arseholes and invoking the ghost of Diana.

The families of the 96 football fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster 23 years ago are up in arms with my boss after an inquiry revealed that the police may have altered statements.

And here I am being all flippant and glib and wishing that people wouldn't take themselves so seriously.  We are on a tiny planet in a universe so vast we can't imagine it, the law of averages states there must be other live out there.  There are too many stars and planets for us to be the only life in the universe. Yet we think we are so important and serious.

It's easy for me to sit here in my nice house with my nice life and tell people to calm down but if we keep going down this route we aren't going to make it.

Have a nice weekend.

I agree so much with the last few paragraphs Tony, people really do get upset over some minor things. The Hillsborough Disaster is something that really gets at me to the point where it's extremely difficult to write about.

When I think about what happened I feel physically sick, it must have been such a horrendous, horrible death for those people but at the same time all this aggravation and headlines is just dragging up something that would be best buried in the past. Those 96 lives are gone now and the fury and blaming of people who may have made mistakes but who most certainly did not want anybody to die isn't helping matters and agh, great post anyway man.

Matthew: This is a brilliant comment mate. You point out how horrendous that day must have been while I just mouth off as though I know best. Excellently written, Matthew, I am humbled.

It's crazy what's been going on. And I was worried about such stupid things the other day.

Is a crazy world and anger doesn't help anything. Your point is well taken on this side of the pond.

Yeah people need to calm down, sadly that doesn't look like it is going to happen though.

I completely agree with you. I do so want to laugh, play "pull my finger" with young Penwassers, and write about fart clouds in Walmart.
But, the world is so full of crazy people.
Sadly, I honestly believe a lot of us are no different from the savages who were collecting heads like bottle caps thousands of years ago. Mankind, as a species, hasn't evolved all that much.
Except now we have nukes.
Sigh.....
Maybe what we could use is an invasion from outer space.

Maybe a hopeful sign....?
Here on Blogger, I have friends (sorry, that's what I consider you all) from the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, and, yes, France. To say nothing of the US.
Plus, there's been somebody from Russia visiting Penwasser Place. I just hope THAT'S good.
Peace to you all.

The world is full of loads of bad stuff, but it is also full of loads of good stuff.... Bad stuff however makes better news that good stuff or so we are told so we see more of the bad than the good.

I would like to be able to fix it all but sadly I have little effect on anything. So am left writing a slightly eccentric blog and pondering it all....

All of you: You guys are the best, I feel better knowing that you are out there. Despite all of the shit that is happening there are decent people making themselves heard, you lot are proof of this. I feel privileged that you respond to my posts.

I do wish everyone would calm the eff down. Like EVERYONE.

The timing of these occurrences have me somewhat amused - 9/11, the movie, the protests - it's like someone somewhere is sitting and laughing at everyone. The only way to fight ignorance and hate is with knowledge and love. An eye for an eye and the whole world is blind.

If everyone could just play nice and get along, we wouldn't have these stupid anger flare ups. As they say, "One bad apple spoils the whole barrel" but unfortunately we've got barrel loads of bad apples who seem to enjoy spoiling the rest.

Absolutely. We are too small to take ourselves so seriously.
